Veteran voice actor Tom Wyner, from ‘Digimon’ and ‘Power Rangers’, has died aged 77

Veteran voice actor Tom Wyner who worked on shows including Digimon and Power Rangers has passed away, aged 77.

Wyner’s agency, Mobile Moniker Productions, confirmed the news on Facebook last week (July 10).

In the post they wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that we write that client Tom Weiner (known as Tom Wyner) has passed away at the age of 77.” A cause of death has not yet been shared.

The statement from his agency continued: “Tom was primarily known as a voice actor with his first credit being in 1978 for Lupin the 3rd. His breakout role soon followed in the 1985 series, Robotech as Wolfe. His voice then gave way to the creation of numerous characters including almost 30 villains from the Power Rangers, the Dummy Puppet on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bison in Street Fighter and Puppet Master in Ghost in the Shell.

“Tom was also an accomplished ADR Director and Story Editor having written scripts for Saban Entertainment for almost two decades where he then transitioned into audiobook narration.

“Tom was absolutely enthralled by the opportunity to meet his fans, sharing his own passions and inspiring them to chase after their dreams. He poured his heart and soul into every encounter, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. His beautiful and kindred spirit will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”

Wyner’s distinctive voice saw him play over 30 villains in the Power Rangers series and his role in Buffy The Vampire Slayer as the voice of the Dummy Puppet was highly regarded among fans of the show.

He was also a significant contributor to anime shows – he voiced well over a hundred anime productions – including as Devimon in Digimon Adventure and Quent Yaiden in Wolf’s Rain.

Wyner was also busy behind the scenes of productions, serving as ADR director and scriptwriter in many projects.
