The members took time to honour Swift during their set on the first of three nights at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf on Saturday (July 20), after her recent departure from the nearby city of Gelsenkirchen following her ‘Eras Tour’ there. You can view the moment below.
Martin told the crowd ahead of their 2016 single: “Now this is for Taylor Swift because she left town. This is for all of you who feel sad today because Taylor had to go to the next city.
“So we sing this love song, this heartbreak song, and send it to Taylor wherever she is today.”
It comes after the band recently debuted new song ‘Good Feelings’ at a show in Rome.
It follows on from the band’s recent single ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’, which they shared last month as the first taste of their upcoming album ‘Moon Music’, which is set for release on October 4 and can be pre-ordered here.

The band performed a triumphant headline set at Glastonbury last month. In a four-star review, NME noted Martin’s words about the festival: “I look around and I see so many amazing wonderful people from all over the place, and that’s what makes Glastonbury the best city in the world in my opinion,” he offered, honouring “the most peace-loving, love-making people” that make up the Glasto populace. He admitted that Coldplay had “stolen so much of the ethos of Glastonbury’s vision”, and as a result they become “a band of 100,004 people”.”
NME wrote: “Will Coldplay top Glasto again? Five more times? Who knows? Martin revealed a few years back that the band planned to stop making music in 2025, telling NME they had a plan to make 12 albums; now number 10 ‘Moon Music’ is coming in October. There’s a question mark over the future, but tonight was a good crack at making history with a set that felt like home.”
Michael J. Fox also responded to what he described as a “fucking mind blowing” appearance during Coldplay’s headlining set at Glastonbury. Fox was a surprise guest during the encore on a night that also saw the band bring out an array of guests including Little Simz, Femi Kuti, Victoria Canal and Laura Mvula.
Elsewhere, Steven Wilson also recently put the almost two-decade-old myth that he called Coldplay “wankers” to bed.
Meanwhile, Eminem has finally knocked Swift off the top of the Billboard 200 after 12 weeks with ‘The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)‘.
