Trump supporters are laying into Mark Hamill about bandage post

The 'Star Wars' actor has faced criticism for his comments about Trump online

Some supporters of Donald Trump are criticising Mark Hamill online, following a post from the Star Wars actor about the former president.

There was a failed assassination attempt on Trump at a rally over the weekend (July 13), during which a shooter fired at the former President. The shooter grazed Trump’s ear and killed one rally attendant.

A man – who has been identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania – is suspected of firing rifle shots at the former president, with one bullet appearing to strike his ear. The FBI later confirmed they are treating the incident as an assassination attempt.

Hamill made a comment about Trump’s appearance in public yesterday (July 15), his first since the shooting, saying the bandage the former president was seen wearing on his ear was “oversized”. He also went on to claim that the bandage wasn’t worn prior to his appearance.

Hamill tweeted: “1st APPEARANCE of ludicrously oversized ear bandage, apparently not needed prior to tonight.”

The response drew criticism online. One described it as an “evil” thing to say, while others criticised him for being “sad”. You can see more reaction to the post here.

Meanwhile, Tenacious D postponed a show tonight (July 16) in Australia after senator Ralph Babet called for their deportation following their remarks about the Trump shooting.

While performing in Sydney on Sunday (July 14), Jack Black sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to his bandmate Kyle Gass, before asking him to make a wish. Gass shared his wish with the audience, remarking: “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

A statement from concert promoter social media said: “Frontier Touring regret to advise that Tenacious D’s concert tonight at Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed. Ticket holders are asked to hold onto their tickets until further information is available.”

Following the Trump assassination attempt, many figures in the entertainment world shared their reactions, including 50 Cent, M.I.A., Kid Rock, and Freddie Gibbs, while fans of Lana Del Rey also shared memes online.

50 Cent is also rumoured to be making an appearance at the Republican National Convention at some point this week after Trump was formally nominated as the presidential candidate for the GOP yesterday (July 15).
