When is the Splitgate 2 release date? What do we know so far? Splitgate shot to success back in Summer 2021, two years after its original release. The unique take on multiplayer shooters recreates the arcade-like experience of the Halo series but adds its own twist, portals. Everyone was able to place two portals on the map, allowing them to teleport around the arena and create all kinds of unique opportunities to snag kills.
The game is still going today, but after raising funding upon the game’s success, 1047 Games announced in 2022 that they would be halting work on Splitgate in favour of building a sequel with these new development resources that was bigger and more ambitious than Splitgate ever was. The sequel has talent who worked on Overwatch, Call of Duty, Halo, Valorant, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, League of Legends, and even God of War Ragnarok.
That game has been announced, and Splitgate 2 is set to evolve the gameplay in new ways as well as deliver a fresh and exciting, modern look for the game thanks to it being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Here is what we know about it so far.
‘Splitgate 2’ release date window
Splitgate 2 is set to release sometime in 2025 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Announced on July 18 2024, the game was revealed with a slick-looking cinematic trailer that showcased the new visual style 1047 Games seems to be aiming for, as well as some teases as to how the gameplay is set to evolve.
As we haven’t seen gameplay yet, we can’t judge when Splitgate 2 will release fully. But 1047 Games confirmed that a playable version of Splitgate 2 will appear at Gamescom 2024 in August via Xbox Wire.
Therefore, if feedback is positive, we may be able to go hands-on with a beta or two later this year or in early 2025, with a release date shortly after. Although that is an estimate for now, we will have to wait to see when the exact date ends up falling.

‘Splitgate 2’ Factions
The gameplay evolution mentioned above comes in the form of three distinct factions that offer different playstyles. Instead of heroes, these factions seem to be more akin to Battlefield‘s or Destiny 2‘s classes.
The reveal trailer teases these factions with a bulky, tanky one most like a Titan from Destiny 2, a speedy acrobatic faction that can jetpack around the arena, and a reconnaissance faction that can support your team and provide information.
The Titan-like faction is able to throw down a barrier to act as cover and block gunfire, while the mobile faction can fly around the arena thanks to their jetpack. Finally, we see the reconnaissance faction use a slowing trap that, when deployed, freezes enemies in place for a brief period, as well as an ability that allows them to see enemy locations through walls.
These look like solid additions to build out the gameplay options available during matches, beyond the trademark portals. We will have to wait till we see actual gameplay to see how these abilities function in matches properly.
When will we see ‘Splitgate 2’ gameplay?
Speaking of gameplay, we are likely to see Splitgate 2 gameplay during the Opening Night Live Gamescom 2024 showcase. With the game playable at Gamescom proper, a trailer would be a great way to build excitement for the game ahead of the public, press, and content creators going hands-on at the show.
We will be sure to keep this section updated with the latest teases and information from 1047 Games.
