Entertainment world reacts to shooting at Donald Trump rally

The FBI have confirmed they are treating the incident in Pennsylvania as an "assassination attempt"

Figures in the entertainment world – such as 50 Cent, M.I.A., Kid Rock, and Freddie Gibbs, among others – have reacted to a shooting at a Donald Trump political rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday (July 13).

A man – who has been identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania – is suspected of firing rifle shots at the former president, with one bullet appearing to strike his ear. The FBI have confirmed they are treating the incident as an assassination attempt.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service, Anthony Guglielmi, said that the president was “safe”, while one spectator at the rally was killed and two others were critically wounded. Crooks was fatally shot by Secret Service agents.

In a statement, Trump said he was “fine” after a bullet hit him in “the upper part of [his] right ear”. He thanked Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers for their “rapid response”.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also to the family of [those] badly injured,” he added. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”

Several high profile figures in the entertainment world have shared their reactions to the news on social media.

50 Cent posted a clip of his song ‘Many Men (Wish Death)’ along with a photograph of Trump standing with his fist in the air and blood splattered across his face. “I know the vibes,” the rapper wrote. “We are all in trouble now!”

A subsequent tweet saw him post an edited version of the cover of his 2003 debut album ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, with Trump’s face superimposed on his. “Trump gets shot and now I’m trending,” he wrote.

Kid Rock, a well-known political supporter of Trump, posted a brief video on his Instagram account of himself yelling into the camera: “You fuck with Trump, you fuck with me”.

An FBI statement said there are no further threats following the shooting, and that they had yet to establish a motive for the “assassination attempt”.
